Summer

It has been a nice, busy summer and the time has flown by!  Everyone warned us how awful the Florida weather is in the summer, but it hasn't really bothered us much.  We have made some great friends and have spent a lot of time at the beach or splash pad.  Jack spends most every waking moment at work.  He is extremely busy and works over 80 hours per week.  He rarely sees the kids during the week.  On the plus side, he gets to see and treat extremely unusual ophthalmology cases on a daily basis and all on his own.  He is already running his own clinic.  The autonomy is stressful, but he likes learning in such a hands-on way and also feels lucky that he gets to see so much interesting and rare pathology.

We went to the Miami Zoo, its huge and the animals are not in cages.  There are waterparks throughout for cooling off (hence the swimsuits).

We were invited on a yacht ride with some people from Jack's work.  We took a tour of Star Island and saw homes belonging to Vanilla Ice, Gloria Estevan, Shaquille O'Neill and others.

We ran into the original Herbie in a parking garage near our house.  When the kids got close he even waved his bumper, flashed his headlights and squirted water at them!
The beach is so amazing after a storm. We sure enjoy walking over there several times a week.
Miami is the #1 spot for children's product shoots/commercials in the world because of the nice weather and lack of child labor laws.  This means the demand for tiny models is high.  When Jane got offered a job posing for a French children's clothing company (Vertbaudet), we couldn't say know considering the extremely high hourly rate they paid her!  Here she is waiting in a studio for her turn to have her picture taken.  The days were long, but Jane stayed happy the whole time.
Her modeling adventure took us all over South Beach and even into the keys.  This location in Islamorada was one of of the most beautiful beaches I've ever seen!
Jane gets super excited to see her Daddy, which isn't often considering that she goes to bed before he gets home from work.
Playdate at the beach with friends.  We love when the water is still and glassy, like a giant warm swimming pool!
A coconut from our tree.  Jack figured out how to open it and we drank the coconut water (well, Jack drank the coconut water while we all watched).
We are in the middle of rainy season, one minute it is sunny and hot, the next it is dumping buckets (usually without warning).
