10 Facts About My Hometown

I am from Holladay, UT.  A suburb of Salt Lake, but technically its own city.

1) It is currently under major remodel.  Intersections have been changed.  There will soon be a town square and more walking paths.  Older buildings have been torn down.  It  should look very nice when it is all done.
2) People from Holladay LOVE Holladay.  It seems that those who grow up in Holladay tend to marry someone from Holladay and then return there and send their kids to the same high school that they attended.
3) It is conveniently located right off of 1-215 on the east side of the valley, nestled in the foothills of Mount Olympus.
4) It used to have a mall, the Cottonwood Mall.  It was supposed to be remodeled and become a really cool Gateway-type shoping center, but the funding fell through so now Holladay just has a dust pit and a Macy's.  I miss Cottonwood Mall.
5) Not much planning went into the original area.  Houses and neighborhoods are mish-mashed together.  There are few parks.  Many neighborhoods do not have sidewalks.  Why do we love this place?  Not sure, but we do.
6) There are at least 3 yogurt shops within a 1 mile radius.  Lots of little clothing boutiques too.
7) I think people in Holladay tend to copy each other.  You can tell a family is from Holladay when you see them pull up to the yogurt shop in a black SUV pulling a Malibu wakeboard boat and they have 5 kids and the mom is skinny and cute and drinking a Diet Coke and the girls are all wearing tankinis from Like Ricki.  I recently pointed out this phenomenon to Jack on a trip to Wyoming where we saw no less than 5 families who fit this category and we knew they all had to be from Holladay.  I'm not critisizing, my own family fits in here too.
8) The city's population is around 14,000
9) It was settled by a Mormon pioneer named John Holladay
10) There is a creek running through it called Spring creek and therefore there are a lot of large trees here, more than you will find anywhere else in the valley.
