I have become really tired of her not being able to be happy without her binky in her mouth, so yesterday I decided to confine it to her bed. I probably should just take it away all together, but am not sure if I can handle any sleepless nights right now. (I am weak, I know.)
Yesterday was our first binky-free (bed only) day. It went ok, especially when we spent the whole afternoon/evening out of the house. This morning has been another story. I can't tell you how many times I've had this conversation in the past hour (it is only 9 am!):
Hannah: I want binky!
Me: You can have binky at naptime.
Hannah: Please I want binky? (with big crocodile tears and puppydog eyes)
Me: Binky has to stay in bed.
Hannah: BINKY!!!!!! (with angry eyes)
Me: Binky is only for bed.
Hannah: I want binky on the couch. (sobbing)
Me: You can only have binky in bed.
Hannah: Long silence
Hannah: BINKY!
You get the idea.
Oh man...how much longer will this last? Any advice?
Here she is in her new "big girl bed" - she's been spending a little extra time there lately since that is where binky resides.
Here are some pictures from her fun little dance class. This is the highlight of her week. Her only request before we go each week is that she doesn't have to wear a "princess dress and dancing shoes" like the other girls (she is SO particular about her clothing).
When you figure out the binky thing let me know because it is going to be a problem for Halle, I definitely have stopped judging other parents too, now that I have pretty much done everything i said I would never do! I saw a book at Babinskis that made me laugh, it was called "I was the perfect parent before I had children" I thought that was clever, and also very true!
ReplyDeleteWe had the same problem with Ellie. She was obsessed with her binki. I tried making it a bed-time only thing but she asked/cried for it constantly. So, one day we had her chuck her binki into a river (with some persuading) and told her it was going to other babies and she never asked for it again. Every once in awhile she would say "binki in the water." It took her longer to fall asleep for about a week so I gave her a sippy cup with water to help. It was well worth it. But I won't judge you if you decide not to.
ReplyDeletei'm in your same boat, but cole's 2 1/2... lame, i know. i tried so hard to ditch the binki right before brookie was born and we were doing pretty good - just at nap time and bed time - them brooklyn came along and had one, so he'd need his or take hers... not worth the fight. i figure it'll eventually go away. it would be embarassing to have a binki on your first date... :) hope everything else is awesome! love you guys!
ReplyDeleteDancing class! So fun!! Is this something with your ward? I think Aria would just love that!
