Jackson, meet Hannah

(Getting ready to leave the hospital)
We left the hospital on Saturday afternoon. We were sick of being barged in on every hour and not getting any rest. But I still have to say that I was so impressed with all of the doctors and nurses and CNA's that took care of us at IMC, it was a great experience.

(A tired mom and dad getting to leave the hospital)

After leaving the hospital, we went to get some lunch and stopped at Target to buy a couple of things we needed. At this point I was just dying to see Hannah. Call me crazy, but I missed her so much. I have never been away from her overnight before.

When we got to my parents' house, Hannah ran out the door and gave me the biggest hug. She kept saying "I miss you!" and of course I started sobbing (everything makes me cry right now).

Jack then asked her if she wanted to see what was in our car. She climbed in and saw Jackson in his car seat, which used to be hers, and exclaimed, "It's baby Hannah!" We told her no, it was her baby brother Jackson. "Oh so cute!" she squealed.

We took him inside. Jack was extremely apprehensive because Hannah still had a bit of a runny nose. We did our best to completely sanitize her and then let her meet her brother.

The first thing she said when we got inside was, "Look what I got a you!" She presented Jackson with some binky's that she had picked out at the store with my mom. She tried to give him one, but he did not want it so she carried the two binky's around the rest of the day. She knew very well that she was not allowed to put them in her mouth, but she kept showing them to her brother as if to say, "Hey buddy, these things are like gold, enjoy them while you can."

My mom helped Hannah hold Jackson and she excitedly pointed out his nose, ears, fingers and feet. He was swatting at her and she kept saying, "He's touchin' me with his fingers!" She was very upset when Jack made her move away from him since her nose started to run again.

She also "helped" me change his diaper and was quite concerned about the state of his belly button and circumcision site.

I am so sad she is sick. I thought she was almost better but she woke up today with a raspy voice and it sounds like the cold has moved into her chest. When we got up today she ran to my room saying, "I wanna see my brotha!" Jack kept pulling her back away from him and she was just so upset. Jack finally had to take her to his mom's house for the day so she wouldn't be so upset. What are we supposed to do? She is in love with him and just wants to see him, but we don't want to risk him getting sick. I can't wait for her to feel better so that she can interact with him a little more. I am grateful that she loves him.

In the meantime I am enjoying my alone time with him today. All we've done is sleep and eat. He is such a great nurser and wants to eat every 2-3 hours, which is somewhat exhausting. Other than that all he does is sleep. I have not seen his eyes open for more than a few seconds at a time.

Hour by hour I realize that he looks more like me than Jack. He does not resemble Hannah's baby pictures at all. He has fine blond hair and very blue eyes (not the grey-blue color most babies have). He has a teeny tiny nose and full lips. He likes to move his mouth a lot. His skin is very dry and looks reptilian, we have been covering him in lots of lotion.

When Hannah was born, she hated to be cuddled or swaddled and was able to hold her head up pretty well from the minute she was born. She was constantly moving and looking around. Jackson is very floppy and likes to keeps his legs bunched all the way up to his chest. He has no bum, it is as if his legs just meet his belly and there are no hips or anything. He loves to be held but is happy to be swaddled too. I am in love...

  1. Yea Melissa!! I'm glad that Hannah is doing so well with him and just wants to love him!! He is such a cutie and I can't wait to meet him! We'll have to come see him in a couple of months when you're okay with visitors. In the mean time, if you ever need a break from your toddler, I've got a toddler she can play with here :) I'm sure the girls would love to play again!

    Congrats!
